Favorite Things || Summer 2016 Edition

In a matter of days I will be twenty-two years old. TWENTY-TWO PEEPS. You know how most birthdays, another year turns over and it’s exciting and all but ultimately it doesn’t feel that different? Turning twenty-one was pretty awesome because it meant I could purchase alcoholic beverages legally (not that I ever purchased or drank alcohol illegally), but apart from that it didn’t feel very different from twenty. Well this year I’m turning twenty-two and I can already tell this next year is going to be a whole lot of crazy and awesome. Here are a few of my favorite things so far this summer and I might have to share a second installment at the end of this summer because there's no way I'm going to fit everything in here.

>>finishing my twenty-first year of life in style
>>realizing my hair is long enough to braid
>>girls’ day out in the city
>>music stores

>>my first smartphone (not gonna lie)
>>the whole new world of Instagram
>>road trips with my adventuring friend

>>lantern fest
>>magic in fire and light

>>campfires and toasting marshmallows
>>befriending strangers
>>visiting New Orleans, LA

>>basically everything about NOLA
>>witnessing my dear friend's wedding
>>third time a bridesmaid
>>catching the bouquet
(first time!)
>>4th of July festivities
>>sparklers
>>live orchestra & fireworks display
>>cookouts
>>family & friends
>>decluttering life
>>out with the old, in with the new
>>Joshua Radin, The Script, and Bastian Baker
>>running the trails at dusk

>>fireflies
>>cow appreciation day at Chick-fil-A
>>Brigitte’s Blend loose-leaf from Harney & Sons
>>sunshine and swimming outdoors

>>feelin’ twenty-two

  1. That is awesome! I must be just a couple days older than you--22 is not so bad(well, at least so far! :D).
Great shot with the sparkler. I just lit sparklers for the first time this summer! A friend had guests form two lines with sparklers at her wedding instead of throwing rice of blowing bubbles. How neat that you got to catch a bouquet! Have a happy birthday and a completely wonderful time being 22!

    1. Yay for July babies!! My sister had sparklers at her wedding last winter for the send-off. I think it's such a fun alternative to the traditional rice.

It was a good thing I caught the bouquet because it also happened to be my third time as a bridesmaid and you know what they say about third time a bridesmaid...

Thanks for stopping by, Bethany and happy (belated) birthday to you!! Have a wonderful 22nd year of life.

  2. Oh Dani, how exciting to be turning 22 soon! May I wish you a very Happy Birthday :) I remember my 22nd birthday with great fondness... You see, my son was born on the very day that I turned 22. Yes, it was quite the birthday gift {{smiles}}

Love post, dear one. It's so good to visit you as it's been too long! Love and hugs!

    1. Stephanie, I agree it's been too long! I've been so busy that it's been hard to keep up with everyone's blogs but I'm enjoying catching up!

That must be such a special memory and a sweet birthday gift! Thanks for stopping by, Stephanie! 😊

  3. Lovely post! I'm almost eighteen and I've never even owned a cellphone so I can only imagine what it'd be like to suddenly own a smartphone haha. Yay for road tripping, friends and cookouts.
And by the way - happy birthday!!!!!

    1. Kara, I didn't get a cell phone until I was 17 but that was only because I was travelling on my own without family for the first time and even then my first phone was a Trac phone, a cheap flip phone.

I eventually upgraded to an actual phone with a plan and unlimited texting but it wasn't until this year I got a real smart phone haha. ☺

I will say it makes keeping up with the blog a lot more convenient! Thanks for stopping by!!

  4. Ah, happiest of birthdays, Dani! Twenty two...what a wonderful age! I pray the Lord's richest blessings on this next year of your life!
    I will be celebrating 20 this coming year and, oh my...it seems rather strange and scary to be leaving my teens behind forever! {{Smiles}}
This was such a fun post ~ I love listing my favourite things too!
    Much love,

    1. Kelly, thank you so much! You are so sweet. I remember turning 20 felt like such a strange transition from my teen years. The number weighs of so much more responsibility than 19 for some reason.

It's good to hear from you and thank you again for your kind wishes! 😊

  6. This is a wonderful list of summery things! You got to go to New Orleans? So cool! What was it like? Summer is my least favorite season, but I do enjoy all the summery food like peaches, watermelon, and cherries. :)

    1. Victoria, New Orleans was beautiful. It was vibrant, diverse, seedy, depressing, upbeat, lively, and basically every mixture of colorful contrasts you can imagine. I loved it and I can't wait to go back!
